A "StartUp" is a must to have in your life.
Either it is Microenterprise , Small enterprise, Medium-sized enterprise or Large enterprise, It could be a failure or a success. Whatever It would be, But one thing will surely happen to you, which is change in your mindset. The understanding on how things works, how to resolve a conflict between two entities or even how to stand out in hard circumstance.
StartUp in itself is a machine and depends on whether you want to do it manually everyday or you automate small tasks in order to bring more success. The biggest failure of a StartUp is when you fail to automate everyday work because It will suck crucial time of everyday from you which you can use for new things. Today we will talk about some of the key points which I learned from my StartUp experience which changed my mindset and helped me achieve better in all aspects of my life.
Approach To Gather Requirements
Starting from the beginning of your day till the end, The most important part of any task is to gather requirements. If you approach this in a right way then you will easily reach to your goal. Pre-requisites are always visualized as an un-important work but trust me It is as important as your implementations. Just think If you don't have a clear view of what your client wants then how will you deliver it. Suppose he ordered a chicken pizza but you delivered it with pineapple topping. A good approach to gather requirement is "Ordered Approach" which is to gather things in order from the beginning even If you had done it thousands of time.
Keep Sharpening Your Basics
This is very crucial in each profession to keep sharpening your basics even you are highly experienced because it helps you to troubleshoot any problem. Most of the experienced drivers on road forget the basics as time pasts and that sometimes place them into uncomfortable circumstances. The answer to "Do Smart Work Not Hard Work" is how strong your basics are. Most food StartUp fails to focus on the basics of any recipe which brings me to my next point "Consistency".
Commitment Will Help You Start But Consistency Will Help You Complete
Every new year a lot of resolutions get committed but most of them ends before reaching to goal and same is the Idea for StartUp. The key point here is the Consistency. It can be of anything either waking up and start your day early, regular exercise or if you are an YouTuber then posting consistent videos without fail. Consistency connects you with the end user because the definition of good service is If you are consistent in serving good to your customers. Things don't just start automatically by thinking them laying down on your bed or having a shower, They start when you have a routine. Therefore the keys for being consistent is my next point.
Discipline, Patience And Being True To Yourself
When I started my StartUp, The first thing I achieved was a disciplined routine. Waking up early in the morning and connecting with my suppliers, gathering all new orders and preparing for the day and this helped me to have a productive day. I feel that one of the biggest reason of getting de-motivated of a Owner is that we fail to have Patience with respect to our outcomes. We need everything very fast but It impacts your quality, Take a software company as an example which is getting initial successes because of the great idea of their product and when their client increase then their main focus is on Delivery but not Quality which decreases the value of their end product. The biggest flaw here is that they are not "True To Themselves" because they set wrong expectations to their clients or even think that we can impress our customers by doing things within the timeline. But rather in reality It is impacting them to their core and may become the reason to failure.
Benefit Of The Doubt
Most of the media houses who talks about employees being harassed by making them work hard timings or bringing work-life balance, In reality these companies itself don't give a shit about their own employees. You need to understand that employees are your only trustable source who can help you bring out of difficult circumstances. Even If you are a team lead or owner of a company or anyone responsible, Always give "Benefit Of Doubt" to them. Because If they failed once does not mean that they will fail every time and supporting them itself will motivate them highly to get better results. This can also be applied If you are parents therefore If your child fails in something does not means that It is the end of the world but rather a good parenting is to support and guide your children.
Fresh Perspective
Having a smart level of confidence and tendency to not getting scared of things is something I learn't from my experience. It brings you a "Fresh Perspective" to each problem you face. The idea here is that If you will get scared of even trying things then you won't be able to experience the joy of doing it. It can be either Para-gliding, Sky-diving, Trying new things in food or even debating on an important topic with your seniors. If you approach to a problem with fresh perspective then every time you will be amazed on the results because It helps you to focus on different aspects of the problem.
Last But Most Important - Automation
Recently I learned few principles from my mentor which are KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid), DRY (Do Not Repeat Yourself) and YAGNI (You Ain't Gonna Need It). These three basic principle can help you building a strong foundation for your automation. When you have a StartUp then the most important thing is If you don't do the same work twice but automating it so that It happens itself. You know a good coder is not the one who writes thousands of line of code everyday but rather the one who also focus on removing un-necessary chunk which you ain't gonna need. You can see around yourself that all the products you use are in some way an automation which helps you in your every day life for example a washing machine or a dish washer. Believe it or not but most of the StartUp's focus in automating your life.
In conclusion, I would recommend you to experience the beauty of a StartUp and don't be scared If it is a vague idea or very small one. Trust me If you follow above principles then you will surely see a change in your mindset and you will feel the joy of doing things.
